How Much Does a Motorcycle Service Cost? Fixed-Price Servicing Explained

The honest answer to how much a motorcycle service costs is: it depends on the bike and the service interval. A minor service on a small LAMS bike is a very different job to a major service on a big adventure tourer. What you should never have to accept is a vague answer. At Trooper Lu’s Garage we use fixed-price servicing, so you know the number before we start.

What actually drives the cost

  • Service interval. Minor services are mostly fluids, filters and checks. Major services add valve clearances, plugs and more labour.
  • Engine size and complexity. More cylinders and tighter packaging means more labour hours.
  • Parts required. Oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, brake pads, chain and sprockets – what needs replacing at that interval.
  • Condition of the bike. A neglected bike may need extra work that a well-maintained one does not.
  • Extras. Tyres, brake fluid, coolant, fork service or a roadworthy inspection.

Minor service vs major service

A minor (interim) service typically covers

  • Engine oil and oil filter replacement
  • Chain adjustment and lubrication
  • Brake, tyre and lighting checks
  • Fluid level top-ups
  • A general safety inspection

A major (logbook) service typically adds

  • Air filter and spark plugs
  • Valve clearance check and adjustment
  • Brake fluid and coolant service
  • Throttle and cable adjustment
  • A more thorough inspection of steering, suspension and wheel bearings

Your owner’s manual sets the intervals – usually by kilometres or months, whichever comes first. Sticking to the logbook matters if you want to protect your warranty and your resale value.

Why fixed-price servicing is worth asking for

Fixed-price servicing means the cost of a given service on your model is agreed up front. No surprises, no open-ended hourly bill. If we find something outside the scope of the service, we call you first and you decide – we do not just do the work and add it to the invoice.

We also use genuine OEM parts wherever possible. Genuine parts are made to your bike’s exact specification, which keeps it safe, reliable and holding its value.

Do you have to service at the dealer you bought from?

No. In Australia you can have your motorcycle serviced by any qualified workshop without voiding the manufacturer’s warranty, as long as the servicing is done to schedule with appropriate parts and it is recorded properly. Our workshop services all makes and models, not just the brands we sell.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a motorcycle service cost?

It depends on the model and whether it is a minor or major service. We quote fixed prices per model, so call us on (02) 9602 3773 with your bike’s make, model and kilometres and we will tell you the exact price before you book.

How often should I service my motorcycle?

Follow the interval in your owner’s manual – commonly every 6,000 to 12,000 km, or every 6 to 12 months, whichever comes first. Ride hard, commute in traffic or do a lot of short trips, and you may want to service more often.

Will servicing elsewhere void my warranty?

No, provided the service is carried out to the manufacturer’s schedule with suitable parts and is properly documented in your logbook.

What is included in a fixed-price service?

The exact scope depends on the interval. As a rule, a minor service covers oil, oil filter, chain, fluids and a safety inspection; a major service adds items like air filter, spark plugs and valve clearances. We will confirm exactly what is included when you book.

Can you pick up my bike?

Yes – we can arrange motorcycle transport to collect your bike and return it after the service.
